This is the classic first Thailand trip: Bangkok for the sights and food, then a short drive to Pattaya for the sea.
Both bases are close, so you spend little time in transit and most of it enjoying the places.

Day-by-day 5-day plan
Arrive in Bangkok
Transfer to your hotel and spend the evening at a night market or on the river.
Bangkok sights
Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun in the morning, then a river cruise or mall shopping.
Drive to Pattaya
Transfer to Pattaya in the morning, take an afternoon on the beach and an evening walk by the sea.
Coral Island
A boat trip to Coral Island for the beach and water sports, back by late afternoon.
Return and depart
Drive back to Bangkok and head to the airport, allowing for traffic.
How to adjust this plan
- If your flight is early on the last day, spend the last night in Bangkok.
- Replace Coral Island with the Sanctuary of Truth if the sea is rough.
- Travelling with children? Add a Bangkok aquarium to Day 2.
